Papier Mache Magazine

The latest issue of Papier Mache Magazine is out today.  Papier Mache is a free online magazine all about kids.  Actually that is probably a lazy description.  It’s more of an online contemporary kids design fair but with all the old world charm and nostalgia of a toy museum.  This time around, the publishers have put together a decorating supplement.  It’s downloadable and only $3.  This issue features an embroidery project by celebrity craftster Pip Lincolne, heart-breakingly beautiful fashion shoots, and seamless art direction which makes the advertising look as beautiful as the content – a feature we love!  We can’t wait to get a spare hour to scroll through it uninterrupted.  Even first glance has us reaching for our debit cards!

SoHi Casting Call

Fashion

blythe

Our Mid Summer issue will feature a divine kids fashion shoot and we are putting a call out for little girls, aged 2-4, who are willing to have their hair cut with a chic little fringe (if they’re not sporting one already). The shoot will take place week commencing 23rd November. Please share this news with all your mum-friends. Casting will be via email, so please email a clear head shot and full length shot of your little Linda/Cindy/Naomi/Christy/Kate to rebecca@sohimagazine.com.au
The images are from the Alexander McQueen for Target range, released this early year and if it looks as hot in real life as it does here on Blythe, it is no doubt all gone! While the dollar is strong, why not revisit Target’s online Design for All store, where you can grab products by other icons like Orla Kiely and Jemma Kidd at Target prices?

Claire Incorruptible

We have just discovered the most uber eBay store in the universe. This is a store selling not one, but TWO original seventies Diane Von Furstenberg playsuits.  Choosing an image to post on SoHi was near impossible.  Adelaide girl Belinda Humphris curates this most incredible ongoing exhibition of style.  Her fit-model is captivating and the entire site, including the clothing images, has been art directed to the bejesus.  Scanning the site credits we noticed that our favourite Adelaide design house, MASH, seem to have had more than a finger in this pie.

We’re really feeling it reading Belinda/Claire’s list of ♡s

Individual, Eclectic & Imaginative vintage, Designer Vintage Rarities, Bruce Weber, Norma Kamali, Sonia Rykiel, Ossie Clark & Celia Birtwell, Porcelain animal figures, Lea Stein, the collaboration of Charles Jourdan & Guy Bourdin, Tuxedo chocolates, Mala Brajkovic, New Zealand Fashion Week, Grey Gardens, Kathleen Turner, Nutjob key rings, Oversized Animal Jewels, Bags shaped like King Tutankhamun, and the music of Meatloaf.

We’re filing this under Fashion and Thrifty.  Remember, a $300 romper is good value if you treasure it, wear it, and are complimented like crazy when you rock it.

Opinion : Bowral Farmer’s Market in Moss Vale

Food / Good Reviews / SOHI Calendar

farmersmarket

We’ve been hearing a lot of debate lately about Bowral Farmer’s Market’s move to Moss Vale Show Ground. Naturally the Bowral old guard are moaning. Are they mourning the convenience or is it an inherent snobbery about Moss Vale’s perceived lower social-cache? The southern villagers have been celebrating the move.  While we also love Bowral, we are very excited about the Markets’ new home. Moss Vale is incredibly central for those of us living in the southern villages of Berrima, Exeter, Bundanoon, Penrose and Robertson. And the Showground has the capacity to provide a springboard for so many other community events. Some of the confirmed events planned by Julia et al are Night Noodle Markets, Christmas Markets, and a curated flea market – a SoHi favourite! So much consideration has gone into the move and SoHi would like to state for the record that we are 100% in favour of parking, room to grow, and recentralising our community in a more geographically friendly way. We will see you there tomorrow!

Ojo de Dios – Christmas SoHi style

Craft / Good Reviews / Interiors

stars

SoHi crafter Tamara Maynes has just launched her Christmas range at her online store, The Six Week Boutique. In her mail to us, she tells of making these beautiful traditional Spanish stars as an eight year old, and hanging them from her apple tree.  She has since discovered that these stars are called ‘Ojo de Dios’ and represent a prayer for health, happiness and prosperity for those who craft them and those they are crafted for.  And doesn’t that just sum up the Christmas spirit?
