Good Reviews
Rightbackatcha Kate
We came across this piece of incredibly flattering bit of publicity on the Magnation blog and while technically we don’t have a section online for blowing our own horns, we really want to show the world this piece anyway. So we’re filing it under ‘Good Reviews’ as a way to say a big thanks to Kate Bezar of Dumbo Feather for ranking us so highly, above Apartamento, and above MAP. We sometimes get compared in feel to all three mags and we take it as the highest possible compliment. Hopefully we are all of an ilk, changing our worlds one recycled page at a time.
Cires Trudon Candles

Tonight we are going to review something we can’t afford in the hope that the universe will read this post and send us the thing we want most. There’s been a lot of tweeting tonight about candles we covet. We are huge fans of the luxury candle. You can see the mixed company SoHi keeps by checking out the schizophrenic mix of candles that were suggested as more GFC Friendly alternatives! Sonny was lusting after a black skull candle from Via Alley, Yan Yan had some stylish suggestions; Burn by Mecca Cosmetica and Jo Malone (sorry Yan Yan, not helping the budget much here). And Abbie made the more practical suggestion of spending $20 at Bondi Market. But the candles which have us captivated are Cire Trudon’s charmingly marketed Bougies Parfumees.
Cire Trudon have the most unintentionally kooky website and it’s not just the delightfully melodic translations from the French. They do things with animation that are completely without irony. Reading through the descriptions is a joy, and we can say first hand that the scents really do evoke the scenes described. May we give you an example? Here is the text from their ‘Abd El Kader’ scented candle.
“A wind of freedom coming all at once from the Mascara Coast and down from the mountains bringing its foolish race the green scents of fresh mint, the rashness of fights, the hot and peppered air of ginger and the perfume of tea and tobacco from the Ouled Nail Tribe.” Head: the spear mint, lemon yellow, blackcurrant bud, apple, ginger. Heart: Jasmine. Bottom: Vanilla.
Can’t you smell it?
Cires Trudon candles are available at Babilonia in Bowral. Price unprintable.

The Saturday Night Girls
SoHi crafter, Tamara Maynes, is offering cross stitch with a twist with her new range at The Six Week Boutique. They’re sure to cause an upset if entered into The Moss Vale Regional Show needlework competition in 2010. They’ll knock the knitted Last Supper right off it’s perch! It’s a great time to mention that there’s a ‘Stitch n Bitch’ every Thursday night at the Sutton Forest at 730pm. The ladies use the dining hall out the back. We’re going to try and make it this Thursday. Been meaning to finish the cross stitch David & Victoria Beckham style butt monogram on the size 2 jeans for some time. Hope to see you there.

Best Made Axe
With the burning off season coming to an end, it’s time to prepare for the not so romantic burning season, the bush fire season. We read a really interesting article at this link explaining that trees within 100 metres of any house are a real danger during bushfire season. It seems early to be bringing this up, but the article explains that clearing can be made difficult in light of some kind of strange and unilateral legislation surrounding broadscale clearing. Yes, apparently making your house safer is considered broadscale clearing and as such it’s illegal without permission. So if you want to clear some land around your property, you’d better start getting the relevant permissions now. And the more frivolous second reason we are profiling the (in this case) not so humble axe is that these axes are hand made on demand and shipped from the US. So this will take time, but if you hurry you may just be able to place and receive your order, save your house, and look incredibly chic all the while.
You can purchase an axe from Best Made Co here
