Public Office’s Last Day at Pop-Up Co-Op
Sadly today is Monique Germon’s last day stocking her wares at Pop-Up Co-Op. Her stock of Tara Badcock hand embroidered pieces have captivated the Highlands crafters and design geeks alike. So if you have been deliberating about buying a too-gorgeous-to-use pin cushion or dilly bag, you had better hurry as Monique is leaving for India next week and taking all her little goodies with her. The store will remain, sans Monique, at Corbett Plaza right up until Christmas.
Crazy Cozies Exhibition in Exeter
We could write a piece on this typically ‘Exeter’ event but we think the CWA blog really sums up the frankly quite bizarre meeting of tea cozy art and the web 2.0 generation.
“Dahlis describes her creation as a ‘punk pot’ but it looks too beautiful to be ‘punk’! It seems a world away from safety pins and ‘Goths’ and torn jeans. (Maybe it was the blue ‘cropped hairstyle’ on top that caught her imagination?!)
But then again, if we take it up a notch or two into the world of ‘post punk’ fashion – to Vivienne Westwood and John Paul Gaultier – it becomes something entirely different! It enters a pretty imaginative designer realm… and why not?
Nearly everyone we speak to who is making crazy cozies, says the same thing: ‘When I start on the cozy, I have no idea where it’s heading – or how it’s going to look when it’s finished!’”
That’s correct. You heard Jean Paul Gaultier’s work being compared to a tea cozy. This whole scenario really conjures up images of 65+ year old flame haired Westwood-esque women, clicking and clacking away while blogging, tweeting, and catching the latest collections on style.com. We know Exeter is a funny little village. Case in point: Egypt come to Exeter with the head of the CWA dressed up like Nefertiti pushing pyramid shaped macaroons onto the poor consul general of Egypt and belly dancing in the CWA hall. We really want to know WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE?
SoHi will not be missing this exhibition for all the world. It is on Saturday 10th October from 9am – 4pm at the Exeter Village Hall.

Pop-Up Co-op
Starting October 11 and ending at Christmas, Pop Up Co Op will appear in Bowral’s most charming shopping strip at Shop 7 Corbett Plaza, Bong Bong St. Bowral. Sarah K, designer and retailer of tiny museum-like store Arp, Tamara Maynes, the master-crafter behind Bespoke Workshop, and Monique Germon, designer + creator of Love + Clutter, with her latest project *Public Office, have joined forces to create a super up-market market experience of curated and crafted design.
It’s a one stop Pop Up Shop, where limited edition pieces for the home will be on offer amidst furniture and fashion, stationery, books and even on selected days, cup cakes from heaven. Its a short sharp thing, so make sure you make it in, even if it’s just to witness the changing installation of exhibited wares.
Pop Up Co Op is open from 10-5 Every Day of the Week except Sunday from 11th October.

The Saturday Night Girls
SoHi crafter, Tamara Maynes, is offering cross stitch with a twist with her new range at The Six Week Boutique. They’re sure to cause an upset if entered into The Moss Vale Regional Show needlework competition in 2010. They’ll knock the knitted Last Supper right off it’s perch! It’s a great time to mention that there’s a ‘Stitch n Bitch’ every Thursday night at the Sutton Forest at 730pm. The ladies use the dining hall out the back. We’re going to try and make it this Thursday. Been meaning to finish the cross stitch David & Victoria Beckham style butt monogram on the size 2 jeans for some time. Hope to see you there.

To John Denver, with Love

Have you ever wondered how that macramé wall hanging in your grandma’s kitchen was created? Do you marvel at the intricate network of knots in your string shopping bag? SoHi is here to help you find out just how you can make your very own macramé masterpiece.
Macramé was once a puzzle to SoHi Master Crafter Tamara Maynes too. Inspired by the memories of macramé wall hangings in her mother’s hipster craft shop during her childhood, Tamara has unearthed the deepest secrets of the craft and shares with us here, all you need to know to get knotting.
Tamara’s Top Macramé Tips
First stop for online macramé supplies is www.kingskountry.com. It’s a comprehensive US website where you’ll find all things macramé; patterns, cord, beads, tools, etc. There are also many free macramé patterns available online; try www.free-macrame-patterns.com. Locally, suitable cord and rope can be found in sewing or hardware stores.

Macramé Do’s
Some cords unravel with handling, so it is wise to wrap all individual ends with sticky tape to stop them from doing so while knotting. You can remove the tape when your project is complete. Whilst knotting, ensure your work is correctly spaced and aligned by using a macramé board as a guide or measuring regularly with a ruler.
Macramé Dont’s
There are many cords suitable to use for different macramé projects such as cotton, hemp, jute or nylon, however avoid wool, as once knotted it is time consuming to unknot should you make a mistake.
