Christmas in July on Speed Dial

If, like us, you have decided to leave Christmas in July to the last possible calendar moment, you are going to need some help. We have done all the hard work and hit all the brick walls for you and we’re very excited to be able to give organisational tips for possibly the first (and maybe last) time.

If you have a big crowd coming and you don’t have room in the oven for baked veg and half a beast, call Vicki at Maugher Meats in Burrawang. They simply sell the best meat in the Southern Highlands. They’ll cook your meat overnight and have it hot when you come to collect it. They cater for numbers of 30+. Their prices are very reasonable. Besides, can you really put a price on kitchen-sanity?

The second number you may need on speed dial is Yes Events in Bowral. Does anyone out there have a perfect set of 20 plates, 20 wine glasses, 20 chairs? We didn’t think so. Yes Events delivers, so instead of having to supplement your crockery with paper plates, an embarrassment we have suffered many times until now, ask Yes Events to supply matching everything.

Have you noticed there are not a lot of Christmas ornaments around in July? They’re very hard to come by so a Christmassy bouquet is just going to have to do. Jane at Twigg and Blossom in Berrima is full of completely non-twee ideas for floral arrangements that say Christmas without campy cliches. She can arrange a bush Christmas display using divine natives – a silver Christmas that is 100% holly-free.

And lastly, dessert. Nobody really eats fruitcake except your nan. So buy something that everyone including the kids can enjoy. We’ve discovered Pat and Stick ice cream sandwiches. The boys will pack them in dry ice so that your Sydney guests can safely transport them to SOHI without any melted tragedies.

We hope you enjoy Christmas in July and don’t forget about the Sutton Forest Inn’s fireworks and bonfire night this Saturday, replete with jumping castle, 4m high bonfire and fireworks displays.
